Bird Tables
Garden
Safari bird tables are an ideal way of bringing the outside inside.
Whether it is night or day, fine or pouring with rain, we have watched
the antics of our local sparrow family for hours one end as they fight
over food we've put out. We've even watched a spider laboriously spinning
its web across part of the table over several windy hours. Using the
free timed photography function of our USB cameras you can even capture
a sequence of pictures over several hours to monitor progress!
Our most popular product
Our bird tables are a hefty 30 by 28 cm (12" x 11") ( approx.) baseplate size - plenty of room for all the food you care to put out. Unlike most bird tables available on the market, ours really are designed for feeding birds! The roof has a generous overhang to stop rain hitting the floor, and the table itself has a raised edge (set in to allow the birds room to land) to prevent the food getting knocked off. It even has drainage holes and a special cleaning gap to make it easy to clean the table off occasionally. And of course we make our tables from wood sourced from forests certified as sustainably managed.
Shown
here is still frame from video we took of a bluetit visiting one of
our hanging bird tables. The video was captured with one of our 1.3Megapixel
USB cameras and recorded directly to the hard drive of our PC. Unfortunately,
the starlings arrived not long after this film was shot and booted the
bluetit out!. We roof-mount our cameras because we have found that birds
prefer an open table - it lets you see the plumage and lts them keep
an eye out for predators.
We normally supply our bird tables in part-varnished bare wood. They are supplied fitted with a steel hanging loop but are suitable for post-mounting as well. (We don't supply them post-mounted because the cost of postage would be huge, but they are designed to be able to take a standard 3" by 3" fence post. We even supply the screw!).
Camera options for bird tables
We offer three basic choices of camera for our tables:
- USB cameras - These plug into the USB port of any PC. The camera comes with a 30 foot (10 metre) cable as standard and we can extend this up to 75 feet if you choose our extended cable option at the time you place order (note: we cannot add it afterwards because we seal all the joints to keep them weatherproof). The cable carries both the video picture and the power.
- Wireless Cameras that plug into your TV/ Video - These use wireless technology to beam the video picture back to your TV or DVR/VCR, so you can watch and/or record the action in the box from your living room. Note, however, that the wireless cameras do eat batteries, so we have supplied a mains adaptor to provide power to the camera. We also include a 10 metre power connecting lead and a weatherproof connection box, allowing you to house the battery or connect to the mains adaptor.
- Wired Cameras that plug into your TV/ Video - These bring the video signal along cables to your TV or VCR/DVR. The cable carries both the video picture and the power.
